When a traditional IVR is genuinely the right choice

It's easy to treat "press 1 for sales" as a punchline, but the honest case for it is real. An IVR needs no training data, invents nothing, and does exactly the same thing on the millionth call as it did on the first. There's no model to evaluate, no edge case where it improvises an answer that sounds confident and happens to be wrong. For a business with two or three genuinely distinct call destinations — sales, support, and billing, say — a menu is cheap to build, trivial to change, and about as low-risk as a piece of phone infrastructure gets.

It's also easy to audit. Anyone can look at the branch structure and know exactly what happens for every possible input, because the input space is small and closed by design.
